I ordered and paid this hatchery on Apeil 9, 2013 for 30 pullet chicks. I received one email saying they were sold out of the Wheaten Marans I ordered and I was issued a credit through PayPal. I to date have not received any chicks or any credit for the 20 remaining chicks in my order! The last email was in May telling me my order would ship no later than the first week in July! Well it's the 19th of August and nothing! All I get are automated emails saying they are too busy to answer emails or phone calls! They have had over $150.00 since April and they won't refund my money or send the chicks. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this kind of trouble with this hatchery. Any suggestions on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated.

If you paid through Paypal, you should start a Paypal claim, if the time to do so hasn't gone past.

PayPal is good about handling these types of things. I would deffinitely start a claim

Already tried. PayPal has a 45 day claim limit! It's been over four months!

Farwest Hatchery here in Oregon is doing the same thing. Interestingly the websites for both are still up and they are still happy to part folks from their money.

Consider make complaints on online review sites at least you can warn other people.

To Euphemia: Their website looks amateurish and disorganized...Looks like just a regular backyard chicken operation long on ambition and short on results...Do some investigating...Snoop around...Call the store in Plover,WI, where these people participated in that seminar and community cookout...Call the Plover Police Department or Local County Sheriff's Office...The newspaper...The Chamber of Commerce..etc...Somebody will know these people...This kind of crap gives all mail order hatcheries a bad name...But be charitable and non-accusatory; these people may be good people with a real explanation; and their neighbors will be more helpful if you are reserved and kind....I am NOT being condescending, by the way...Take Care and Keep everyone posted...

Euphemia...Forgot to mention that if you are mad enough you can file a formal complaint with the Wisconsin Attorney General's Office by calling either 1-800-422-7128 or 1-608-224-4953. For quicker results from a formal complaint do the necessary background research and supply them with as much current information as possible. The current Attorney general is J B Van Hollen and he has a good record of results with consumer complaints. Best Wishes...

I have more than worked with these people. First it was no wheatens, then an extended winter. Then a promise of a May delivery, then a July delivery, then NOTHING! I have emailed, called even emailed their Paypal email asking for a refund. PayPal is not going to help me and I did say in my last email I was going to their AG, so thanks for doing the leg work for me! I am all for supporting the small farmer, being one myself, however taking another farmers hard earned money and just ignoring them is WRONG! I will do my homework and find out about these folks. After losing over 40 hens and pullets to bobcats last month I need the money to replace some so I can keep my customers in eggs. Thanks for all your help!!i hope this is a warning to not use this hatchery!

Keep bugging them. You can search this forum for my thread on dealing with them. I gave them nearly $200 and ended up with only 2 out birds correct. They were horrible about communication also, someone said they are best to find via their phone number. They did give me a partial refund, maybe they'll give you the total refund.

The black copper marans I got from them were not very good quality, few feathers on their legs, poor egg color, and mean, nasty roosters. (they sent me 4, although I ordered zero.)

I also received a mixed breed bird no one can identify, so it seems they have a little bit of interesting breeding going on.

Apparently, both of the owners work full time jobs and this is their side business. And, only the wife really wants to run it, but she doesn't seem able to commit the time necessary.
