We got our new babies this weekend. I wish I had gotten them sooner, because when we picked them up they were in a small cage with hardly any room to move around so they have picked at each others feathers. Will they grow back or will I have to wait until they molt? What are they, DS has named the hen Sassy, but we haven’t came up with a name for Mr. Roo, they are getting along great with our other chicks. DS got to see the whole mating thing last night by accident, I tried to explain it as best as I could, but how do you explain that to a four year old.

They are absolutely beautiful in my opinion (but I’m the new mommy, lol!

) The hen is a little skittish, but will come to you if you have food/treats. The rooster is so funny, he is always making noises, either clucking or growling?? No idea what he’s doing. For the past two nights at dusk, he’s sat in the door of the coop crowing for ten minutes, or until everyone comes inside for the night. I believe that they will be great additions to our group.

sorry but im continuing the vote of porcelain somethings... im not seeing a whole bunch of feather picking, we have a few that we got that were picked bare on thier backs, some extra protein and more space will help with it, if your still seeing them peck the bare spots, you can smear the areas with vicks or blu-kote(horse section at your feed store. and it will discourage the picking

If you look closely at the second picture of Sassy, you'll see where her wing feathers have been picked at by the rooster and in the first picture you'll see where the rooster's tail is picked at.

Thank you everyone for your help.
