Here are our new Mandarin Ducks. They are 2009 hatchlings. We have yet to name them, so please help us with names. These are not the best pics as they have not been handled until now.

But why are they being held like that? Isn't it uncomfortable? [IMG]

That is the safest way to carry them , at least that is what we were told at a recent show. They do not flap that way and cannot injure their wings as easy.

Oh they are beautiful...and yes, I was told the same thing about how to handle them that way...they are so skittish...as are wood ducks and do not want to be held and will do anything to get away...you are controlling their wings so they can't flap and squirm....

Hm, I've never seen ducks held like that. But I have big old fat runners. I'd dislocate their wings if I picked them up like that!

    Names: Lucy and Ricky

Thanks guys. We are excited about them. They are gorgeous. The man had whites also, but I just liked the colored ones better. He also told us the whites do not breed as well, at least not for him.

I will definitely try to keep them updated. I have to get them comfortable with us first. Right now, they run and hide.

what cuties! And they are sooo tiny! I forget how small they actually are. Enjoy them! (We have dreams of building an aviary one day and filling it with cuties like yours!)
