Our Tom turkey has been in the tree for 5 days

it’s been really hot and at first we thought it was cooler for him up there. But now it’s been 5 days without eating or drinking. He acts fine when we talk to him to get down. Is this something they do on occasion? He is about a year old. His mate has babies that are 2 weeks old that she’s busy with.

I suspect that your tom is getting down when you don't see him do it. He can go the five days without food but not without water.

If one of mine tried that, I would have knocked him out of the tree the first day using a long pole and a ladder if necessary.

Mine sometimes hang out in the trees during the day. When he is hungry enough, he will come down.
