    Many chicks are hatched outside, so the answer is any time. Heat needs is usually the deciding factor.

    My chicks just turned two weeks old and they are handling temperatures that are quite cool with no ill effects.

    My feelings exactly. An adult hen has a body temperature of about 105 degrees and any hen worth her scratch feed will keep her brood well hovered or warm. Cold rain etc is a greater danger to young chicks than low temps, Mama knows best.
