Yesterday, I wormed all of my 14 chickens and checked all vents. All were fine but my 1 yr old RIR, she has a hard grey cottony oval mas at the bottom of her vent and all along the feather shafts in that area. Mites or lice do this? If so, what treatment, if not, what could it be. She laid her egg yesterday.

Ive never seen this before, please help me. Thanks

Sounds like some kind of bug, mites, perhaps.

Thanks, Im thinking that, the mass on her vent is quarter sized--huge, i better treat today but im nervous as she had valbazen yesterday, perhaps just spray that area with premethin?

    Yes, that needs something topical.
    Good luck.

I agree with Imp, sounds like a cluster of lice eggs. "Welasharon" recommends removing them with warm coconut oil. It should be available at a grocery store.

Ok Dawg, thanks, do you think coconut oil best rather than premethin as she was wormed yesterday with Valbazen, and 2 wks ago with Wazine?

Hi,The wormer will not have an effect on lice eggs.

I think they are telling you to use the coconut oil to loosen and remove the lice eggs. Good luck!

I know the wormer will not work, thanks though. My thinking was the valbazen was hard on her and I hate to give her something too harsh again today, I know premethin will work well but wondering if too much "stuff" too soon. What do you think?
