Over Bred

    How can i keep my hens from being over bred?

    With the standards I remove the rooster when it is possible. Either letting him freerange with the hens in the lot or the other way around.

    You can also buy or make some saddles for the hens to protect their back feathers.

    I made another coop "next door" to my main coop that houses my rooster. He has visitation occasionally. I think he really does love his ladies, he just gets a little too overly eager if ya catch my drift. Like today he got to free range with them and he was alot more calm and gentle with them than before I did that. Plus my girls were standing up to him and he was a little confused for a while this morning, lol.
