Anyone know if zoning laws in Portland, OR allow the keeping hens in residential areas? If so, how many? If anyone knows the website to find such information, I would appreciate it. Aloha, Sue

Lots of people here keep illegal chickens anyway.

However, I'm pretty sure that it's legal as in Seattle they encourage it.

I would call the zoning person in Portland who is in charge of that part of zoning. They don't always post stuff like that in an easy to find area of city code unless you are good at legalese. Medford was just sued and it was determined they could not restrict chickens in the city limits by the local court. Good luck!

The book "Keep Chickens" is all about owning chickens in a city atmosphere, written by a woman in Portland, Oregon, who owns three. She says you can have three hens without a permit, but no roosters. Great book by Barbara Kilarski.

I think half of the members on this board have "illegal" chickens! [IMG] Don't worry, Sue. They can all give you advice!
