I am desperately trying to figure out the dosage needed for my d'Anver roo who shows signs of respiratory distress. I live in Canada, and have called every feed location within a 3 hour radius and Tylan-50 and VetRx is not available within Ontario.

I am desperate! We have Oxymycine LP which is used on cattle on our farm, but I have no idea what dosage to administer to such a little rooster.

    The label reads:
-3mL per 45 kg body weight once daily for 2-3 days.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Please read my previous post for more details if needed.

    Regards,
    Tanya

Sorry, I can't help on dosage.
Are you sure it is a bacterial infection that can be cured by antibiotics? It could also be one that can't or more likely viral, fungal, environmental, protozoal or even nutritional.

I am not sure what is going on with him. He was perfectly normal until Saturday morning when he seemed tired and isolated. Sunday he began breathing with an open beak, noticed discharge from one nostril and a crackling sound when breathing. He is still eating, drinking and having normal bowel movements. We checked his crop last night and this morning, and he seems to be emptying it well. I have no idea what changed over night with him. Unsure of stress from fireworks in the distance could have induced this or contact from wild birds since he's free range. All of our hens are acting normal without any concerns. We have removed Hercules from the flock, and have him in his own coop at this time.

I am stuck at this point since I would have to drive into the US on Wednesday to purchase anything needed other than what I have.

You did the right thing separating him.
I assume you're in Canada. What province? Or is it Mexico? Neither of those are celebrating independence day.
Stress can induce lots of illness. There could be pathogens in the flock their immune systems can fight off till stressed.

I'm in Ontario, Canada. We celebrated Canada Day on Friday :). Hope you had a great 4th of July!

Hercules seemed a bit more responsive today and even hunted for some worms. I'm hoping the injection of Oxy helped and we continue to see improvement.

We were able to order Tylan-50 and VetRx, and we're picking them up from the US by the end of this week. The things we do for our lovely chickens [IMG]
