I know that commercial eggs must be sold within 30 days of their pack date. But I can't find info on how long an egg can be stored before it's packed. Does anybody know??

Good question for which I dont have the answer but I have seen on 20/20 information on what happens to the unsold eggs in the supermarkets.

If past the pull date, the markets send them back to their place of origin where they get repackaged-
a new pull date stamped on them and sent out to the stores. Sweet HUH! Another reason to have your own!!

SM, how recent was that 20/20 show? I thought repacking was illegal?

edited to add:
the info I could find on the web says that there was a permanent ban on repackaging instituted in 1998.
