Hello and good morning. Chicken spent night in smaller crate. (See pics) This morning, shes still keeping weight off left leg. The beak is held open and i feel she could use something for pain. Thanks for info. Also, which crate should i keep her in? Thank u. Supposed to get thunderstorms in CT today, so, we shall see. Guess I'll take rain over another 90 degree day. Poor little buddy. Any help appreciated

Can you get a close up her hurt leg and foot? Could there ba fracture or sprain? Those can take weeks of rest to heal. A vet could do an xray to rule out a fracture. They can also prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug such as meloxicam. Some use aspirin given orally 1/2 of a 81mg tablet once or twice daily up to 3 days. Some feel that pain can limit overuse of a sore leg or foot. I would use the wire cage in hot weather for good arpir circulation, and put something on top for shade and to keep others from pooping on her.

These pics are from this AM. She seems somewhat content, just the open beak has me curious about her pain level. She ate, drank, and even seems to be trying to lay an egg maybe. I gave her access to the save a chick vitamins and well as fresh water. It seems shes a bit better since waking up but she holds that left leg up more often than not. This is the second chicken this has happened to in 3 days! The other chicken was fine after 1 day. I think it was my roost height and now they are heavier, i bet thats the source of injury. I have since lowered roosts and removed all obstacles in the run. I even lowered their run roost. Thank you for your time. 🐓❤️

The close up of the foot has poop on it. There are no open wounds. This pic of foot was early this morning (about 3.5hrs) ago and it seems she can apply weight. Also, she was even attempting to scratch. She ate the couple live grubs i found for her and seems very alert. I do not have baby aspirin (81mg) at this moment. Any chance i can use regular aspirin or something else? No extreme heat today, fortunately, just rain in the forecast. Do you think the other 4 chickens are fine being around her, or can that be stressful? I feel its more stressful when shes away from the flock. Also, will she lay an egg in the crate if she has to or will they hold it if not feeling safe? I have thought of covering part of the crate for privacy? I have some spare curtains i can sacrifice. Ugh, just want to know the right things to do. Thank you! If anyone can chat on the phone, i can facetime and that may help you, help me, to help her. Thank you! Shes one year old, gold laced wyanotte. 🐓❤️
