pale comb, what does this mean?

I have read that pale combs can mean a disease, how do you know for sure?

Have their combs been pale from the start or just going pale recently. How old are the birds? Young pullets have a pale comb until they are approaching point of lay, then their combs and faces redden. Young cockerels usually display a red comb early.

they are four months old and they have always been pale from the start, one hens just looks paler and different.
