Pale comb

Hi,
one of my hens has a pale comb. I got them about 6 weeks ago from a poultry farm and they are now free ranging with plenty of good food and scratch. Is there a known cause for this lack of colour?

Did she lose color after you got her or has it been pale all along? How old is she? They are paler when they are younger and as they reach egg laying age they begin to turn red.

Hi,
she is not a very young bird, she is one that the Poultry Farms sell on when they don't lay enough. Sorry don't know what age that is. The other one I got at the same time has a lovely red comb. They have both improved though and their feathers are all grown back. They both eat like horses! If this is just a case of well that's her colouring, fine, but if I can help her more I will.

Well if she's from an egg farm she's probably just plumb wore out! Give her some time and good nutrition (as you already are) and see if she will brighten up. If she's not showing any signs of sickness you could just try adding some vitamins to their water for a bit. Or Apple Cider Vinegar, also referred to here as ACV.
