Hi Chicken Lovers,

I am trying to figure out the best flooring to use for an enclosed run. I was thinking Patio stones (which I can then cover with shavings/straw) from an easier point of cleaning and digging predators. I am new to backyard chickens so any suggestions will be most helpful.

Thanks,

It might be easier overall to put the stones around the periphery of the run, and use dirt for the floor with whatever sand or other litter you prefer. The stones would help prevent digging, but laying sturdy fencing on the ground around the run seems easier and less expensive to accomplish.

If you already have the paving stones or can get them cheap then by all means use them. Otherwise, the best predator protection from digging critters is a fenced bottom to your run covered with sand. You can even cover the pavers with sand as it is VERY easy to maintain. I just throw some scratch down & the chickens turn it for me. I can also rake it if the need arrises. Also, it's very easy to replace as needed.
