Pecked vent not healing

Hi folks
Hilda is a red sex link, about a year old.
She had a pecking injury to her vent a few months ago. Its never healed properly.
Theres no infection, no redness, just what looks like an open sore just in her vent opening.
She’s laying faithfully, as long as I moisten her with mineral oil. Otherwise she dries up, goes crusty and starts bleeding.


does anyone have experience with this?

Have you noticed any of the other chickens pecking at her? If they are, you can put some pine tar on the wound and the other chickens will leave her alone.

This is an excellent idea as the pine tar will not only discourage the other hens from pecking her vent, but also promote healing and keep the tissue moist.

Thanks for this, she has been living separate from the others for a couple of months ( her choice).

I got mine from a small, local store, but you could try Tractor Supply, Lowes, or Home Depot.
