My roosters just called me out to the coop in the middle of the night and when i got there i noticed a hen was puffed up the way they do to make themselves look bigger I noticed the hen was pecking at the air clicking her beak i had a flashlight and there was dust in the air so possibly trying to eat bugs but i decided to check her over anyways i noticed her crop is not full of pellets like everyone else in the coop it kinda feels like a mouse or something.
Why would she be puffed up and pecking at the air? I dont want to assume she ate a mouse if these are signs for crop issues or something of the sort . Any help is appreciated
Shes 1 year old isa laying currently and just finished molt

Roosters making noise in the middle of the night usually indicates a disturbance in the coop. Everything points to a mouse or something else bothering the hen and she may have eaten it. It does not sound like a health issue. Have you checked the coop for any signs of something larger breaking in?

I would take the hen and check her out, feeling her crop especially now and again early in the morning to check if her crop is puffy and full or doughy. In early morning, it should be empty normally. If she has a full and puffy or impacted crop, she might be vomiting up food, and that might make her click her beak if she is trying to swallow it again.
