I have a male Pekin that is in need of a girl friend. He is terrorizing all the ducks. I have a friend that has Muscovies and I was thinking of getting a couple of girls from her. If I do what kind of babies would they have. No offense to those who do have Muscovies but I don't find them quite as attractive as other ducks. It's the red on there faces but there bodies and coloring is very nice. Anyway, would it be a good match? I've had no luck locally finding a female Pekin for him. Oh, his name is Weebles. He now thinks he is a runner duck.

If you breed your pekin with Muscovy you will get Mule ducks. Check out Feathersite.com to see what they look like. They will be sterile though. Any breed of duck crossed with Muscovy the offspring are sterile. I always thought Muscovy's where ugly too, until I had some, they have such awesome personality's that especially when you have the cool colored ones you soon don't even notice the huge red faces.

Bossynbella is right, you would get sterile mules. I hear that the mules are good meat ducks, though, but I've never tried it.

I used to think muscovies were ugly or odd, but they really do have nice personalities and gorgeous feathers, too! And, the females have less of the red on their face.

Pekin muscovy crosses are raised mostly for meat birds. But also can be pets of course

You will get a duck with little to no carnucling from the crossing but the offspring, as stated above, will be sterile and unable to produce ducklings ( although there have been rare cases were they do ) but will still supply you with plenty of eggs. Of course you will have to keep in mind that scovie hens are great flyers, have tons of personality, and can be fearsome when they want to be but for the most part are usually really sweet.

I have a video of one of my scovie hens attacking a non scovie drake when he didnt want her near "his " girls. Scovie hen was like a little dinosaur

Well then, this doesn't sound to bad. How are they at laying eggs? I do have a lot of requests for duck eggs. I sell a lot of runner duck eggs. Do you think the muscovy eggs taste close to the same as runners eggs? I know this is a odd question and I'm sure it's one of those things I'll have to judge myself...... lol. I know the eggs are great for baking.

So, I don't know a great deal about ducks but I'm starting to get the impression that Muscovies are very different ducks. I do know they are not native to the US and are multiplying quickly. I finally saw one up close and was very surprised at the size of them. They are big. I also noticed the males do not have a drake feather. That surprised me since it is a duck. I may be wrong here but the males seem to have a...... well, not really a comb like a chicken but more like a Mo-hawk looking deal. Well that's all I know about these ducks. I just may be interested in getting a couple.

Muscovies although a breed of duck are their own breed of duck. They are more related to geese in DNA. They, in my opinion are :

The best moms. All my hens have a 99 - 100% hatch rate and their clutches are between 19 - 23.
Great Flyers. Mine fly all around the neighborhood, ontop of the barn, but always come home.
SMART. And I mean super smart with the personalities to match.
They are also quiet, they dont quack. Males hiss and females coo like a dove.

I could go on and on and on. But you cant hold a candle to scovies. With claws as big as a cats and hearts to match.

As for eggs - feed them the same as your runners and they'll taste the same as the runners.

Awwww nowww, I don't get me wanting a male scovy........ ugh. That's all I need. I already have the beginnings of a zoo already. Honestly, I really don't need any more. I really need a girl to put my Pekin in his place..... LOL. Maybe I will get a few girls........ hmmmmmmm................
