My daughter was given 2 bantams by her Aunt. They were told they were both chickens, however we really don't know for sure. Can someone stake a guess? They were aged approximately 6-8 weeks when this photo was taken.

Can anyone tell? We are concerned that the darker colored one is a rooster, but that is only going on some occasional behavior. Nothing certain.

They're both definitely chickens. Possibly Cochin instead of Pekin (which is a kind of duck). If that photo was truly of 6-8 week old birds, then they are both male.

I believe Pekin is what Bantam Cochins are called.

I also agree that both your chickens look male.

Well, learn something new every day. I'd only heard of Pekin ducks. I looked them up, BTW, and whether or not Pekin and bantam Cochin are different breeds is under debate. And since I'd never heard of Pekin before, I certainly have no opinion on whether they're the same or not! [IMG]

Both are Bantam Cochins or Bantam Cochin mixes. Judging by comb size, you have two males.

Thank you, I hope they can exist together in the one enclosure as they grow up.

No wonder they look too similar! lol. These are our first bantams and are hand raised pets. Will they be able to be in the same pen?

I guessed they got both wrong when they sold them to us. We can return them but I know what fate the males will meet. Don't have the heart to do that.

Is the birchen colour particular to males? We only have regular laying hes so have no experience with bantams before.
