my 1 1/2 year old pekin has made a outdoor nest and has been laying 2 and 3 eggs a day!!! she usually just lays once a day. could she be going broody? should I leave the eggs in the nest? can she hurt herself by laying so many everyday?? it just seems un normal.

Also I have a pekin drake who constantly mates with my female mallard. there is other pekin females to mate with but he attacks her down to mate every 5 min. he wont get off of her, she is now bald and bleeding. I try to keep them separated but I feel bad to keep him locked up constantly. every time I try to let him out to enjoy the outside with the other ducks he runs straight for her and aggressively begins to mate over and over and she just screams. what should I do ??

Well, you can keep him separated from her or you can find one of them a new home. It's that time of year. He is not going to stop breeding her.

Think about it. She is attacked. She is screaming. Her life depends on you separating them.

Now.

He could well kill her. Don't feel bad for him.

JessyGii, I am not trying to make you feel bad, it sounds to me like you know what you need to do. Get him on another side of a fence from her, one way or another. Many of us with drakes have had to do something like this at one time or another.

Please let us know how it goes.
