Hi there! I have a mating pair of Pekins and as of Tuesday our hen laid her first egg! Wednesday we got one more. Then today we got 3 more! The first one was normal, but the last two were soft shelled. Anyone else experience this? What should I do? Thanks!

Are you sure the drake isn't actually a female? Sometimes two females will 'mate' in the absence of a drake. Or the female may also be hiding the eggs in whatever bedding she's laying in for a few days- ducks are notorious for doing that. :D And don't worry about the soft-shelled eggs, a newly laying female duck will usually take a while to work out the kinks.

Our female pekin used to lay extra eggs a day (usually soft shelled or shellless) when she first started laying, and over the course of a few months, dropped down to a normal egg a day.
