Hello All, one of my beautiful pekin hens (about 9 months) has gone broody for the first time. The other day as I was giving her a dust for lice and mites I noticed her tummy was completely bald! The skin looks fine, she seems healhty all other feathers are fluffy and look in good condition. Any ideas?

She is probably plucking them. I have read other people on here say their hens pluck their feathers when they brood. It helps keep the eggs warm I guess.

Thanks a bunch. Just did some reading. She is normal.

I've just noticed the same on my Pekin girl, although she doesn't seem to be broody? My older Peking hasn't laid in months & is constantly sitting on my other girls egg (laying most days) Have you noticed this in non-broody hens? Thanks!
