Pekins doing the funny head bob.....video

    Here are the ducks in the run. The Pekins are doing this funny head bobbing.......I have seen it before, just don't know exactly what it means. Almost as if they are bowing to the leader (they are girls)

    That is what they are doing. Its a submissive thing. Like when a chicken egg squats. Showing they are ready to mate.

    That's a standard inciting display be mallard-type ducks. It's courtship behaviour thought to have developed from a hen att5empting to get a drake to attack a rival, but now it's ritualized. The drake usually responds by the turn-the-back-of-the-head display to lead the hen away.

    hmmmm.....thanks. they are supposed to be all girls. will they display this behavior even without a male? i do have 3 male mallards in with them, but they are so small they leave them alone. they are also only 10 weeks if that matters.

    aww. cute ducks! they are marching around dancing and singing because they are so happy! haha :]
