SO new to ducks! LOL!

I will try to get pics this weekend. I have 2 Pekins and 4 Khakis from TSC. They are about 2 months old. Most of the adult feathers are in/mostly in, there is still a bit of baby fuzz on them in spots. The Pekins are white, but it looks like the feathers on thier chest are tan. Both look this way. It's very light, not brown......I"m guessing they are not pure Pekins? I just integrated the flock of 6 ducks into my existing flock of about 25 older chickens......was worried about the chickens harassing them. HA! I'm glad the birds can "fly" enough to get away from the ducks. LOL!

Now my next trick will be trying to find out which ones are girls and which ones are boys. I have heard quacks, but I have also heard raspy sounds. I can't tell who is making what because each breed looks the same (including both 'pekins' with tan feathers.)

Hoping the tan just ends up being dirt. But I kinda doubt it. The rest of them looks clean enough. I was hoping for pure white duckies. :( Oh well!

My white crested is the same, she looks dingy. Now that she is outside in her run in the sunshine with free access to bathing water she is getting whiter.

You can kind of see in the pic that her chest is tan/yellowish.

Water quality, cleanliness, and hardness will affect feather color. Hard water will result in yellowish-orangish feathers. Dirty water will result more in a tan color.

Well, maybe they are just dirty! LOL! They haven't had access to water (to bathe in) in the past couple of weeks because they had to go back in the large brooder while I moved everyone. They weren't happy, but lived through it and now they are back in a HUGE pen with plenty of room to roam. I will give it a few more weeks and see. I really love the pure WHITE aspect of pekins. :)
