Pennington BOSS

Hi-
New chicken mom question- I was looking at the Pennington brand of BOSS- it lists some additives. Is that common with BOSS? I have been buying it bulk at the small feed store nearby- but am considering buying a 20 lb bag. The Pennington bag lists it is for songbirds- just want to make sure it is fine for my chickens as well!

Did it say what the additives were? I assume something to keep the in the kernels from going rancid??

Just looked it up:

Ingredients: Sunflower Seed, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Vegetable Oil

Sounds to me like stuff to get the vitamins to stick to the seeds. Wonder if those vitamins are needed additional for chickens on a balanced feed. I can see where they might be good for foraging wild birds. But I doubt the amounts are huge, so unless you're feeding large quantities to your chooks...

Would be giving occasionally- as a treat- in addition to their regular layer food, which I ferment.
I will ask if there are additives in the bulk next time I am at the feed store.
