People with lots of land!

Right there with you.. I live with my sister her fiance , there 2 kids , my 2 kids , oh and every weekend my kids are gone his two other kids are our house all weekend, plus a very stinky sheddy boxer .... I have 7 acres 2 to mow(all hills) the rest forest, I load dishwasher 4 times a day do laundry none stop , cook the meals , feed the animals , play with the kids , do the shopping , help with the homework , clean the yard , clean the coops , match the socks , hunt down shoes ( atleast twice a day) sweep multiple times a day ( All hard wood floors) , mop , clean all counters , watere all flowers , etc ..etc.. etc... Oh and I work 5 days a week 7-3 , babysit on the weekends , and take of my 100ft x 30 ft garden at my parents house 20 minutes away....
My last day off was thursday cleaned the whole house mowed and spent three hours on garden.. Today was supposed to go to cousins graduation , and a memorial for my cousin who passed last year , kids at there mothers ( Supervised) , but here I am cleaning house again , and trying to build a fence so the kids can play outside without worrying of getting taken...... ALONE....

So i get you girl .... It sucks but its life .. And it definnitly keeps us active

Oh boy, where do I start?!! We have 20 horses, 3 dogs in the house, and a pig in the house

Just having the horses would cause dirty floors if shoes aren't taken off... Add 3 active dogs and a pig to that, and we can't keep up! We farm 40 acres to feed the horses, and that keeps my husband busy, so the house is up to me

I would so much rather be outside!!

We have 11 acres, of which about 3 is woods and the rest is open with not a tree in sight ( except for the woods in the back of the property )

My DH commutes 50 miles to work each way and works on average 60 hours a week, plus commute time. Needless to say it's mostly just me here.

We've had to mow twice in the past 2 weeks. A chore which takes hours. Thankfully someone hays most of the field twice a year. We moved in 2 years ago, half the boxes have never been unpacked from the attic, I have a total of 3 pictures which have made it on to the walls. We are spending this weekend getting the garden ready.

I hate housework, so keep the house neat and tidy at best. LOL I am not worried what people think when they come to my house, if they don't like it don't come. I have 2 kids (boys) so yep it never stays "clean"

It's a lot of work and upkeep but we love it. We certainly go to bed tired, but much happier and content than when we were living in the suburbs.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

How do you manage your time?? I feel like I can have a good garden and the yard in decent shape or I can have a clean house. I don't seem to be able to do both!

My house ALWAYS has dirt tracked in. Pine shavings, mud whatever. I read the flylady about putting on a pair of lace up shoes and keeping them on all day! Clearly the woman does not have barn shoes!!

DH worked 7 days straight 12 hour shifts and now he is out mowing the grass - which will take three hours or so to get about two and a half acres (out of ten!) done.

Am I just here too much??

Ah, seriously, I HATE housework it is mindless boring Sysiphean task.

I have 20 acres and I can go all day and still feel like I accomplished nothing come evening. I have horses, ducks, peafowl, chickens and more chickens, dogs, cats, geese and pheasants. My house is always tracked with dirt, I hate house work and would much rather be outside doing something, so my house always gets behind.

I have no clue about the Flylady, but lace up shoes would get nowhere around here and I really do not think they would go well out in the barn, chicken coop, peafowl pen or dog kennels.

I also hate house work and at times I feel like I am on the verge of hiring a maid.

You can run turkeys in the orchard and they will eat some of the grass and all the dropped fruit. Sheep too, but then sheep are a whole different type of work. Another option is to plant a ton of strawberries underneath the trees and they will kinda spread out like a ground cover. Then you mow nothing under the trees. You just have to be sure to put paths in so you're not stepping in strawberries.

I wish all veggies grew on trees. One of today's chores, weeding the veggie garden...

I have just under 5 acres here and somedays it just does not all get done...simply as that. I am one person so I do what I can and when I can do it. But the animals are all taken care of first and their abodes cleaned up and spiffy.

You know what, I have this philosophy: Once you get everything set up just so, it becomes a lot easier to maintain. It works in just about every other engineered system, the setup is the hardest part but once it's done, it's low maintenance.

It works for gardening: Once your beds are built and the soil has been enriched with compost, green manures, mulches, etc. for a few years, stuff grows like crazy and you don't have to be out there with the fertilizer fussing at it.

Works for houses: Once a building is repaired/built to the point where it's structurally sound, or else designed to be flexible in purpose and structure, maintaining it is a piece of cake for several years before parts start to wear out.

Worked great for the swimming pool: The pool is gunite, which costs more but lasts longer and once I invested in a robot cleaner I didn't have to do hardly anything. My friends with vinyl pools pay a fortune on maintenance and repair, while I spend about $100/year on chlorine tablets and DE.

I just keep holding out hope that once I've done all the landscaping just so, all I'll ever have to do is set plants out in the veggie garden in spring and harvest in fall. Except it never quite works that way...

We live in a rented house that belongs to our church on 8.75 acres. More than 3/4's of the property is in woods because no one has taken care of it. I found a lovely 3 stall, dry barn on the back of the property this winter. We have lived here for more than a year and it was the first time we noticed it. I am planning on using it soon....maybe!! The house gets cleaned when it gets cleaned. DH is disabled and helps the sons run their meat market during the day just to have something to do other than watch the boobtube (tv). It gets him out of the house, but it also gets no work done here or help for me with things.

I work parttime, 32 hours a week at a grocery store in the bakery and come home to do all the chores outside, build whatever needs building and mow. At least he cooks every now and then..hehe....he was a chef and doesn't know how to cook small meals. I eat leftovers, he won't!!

Caring for the 30 chickens, 5 turkeys, 2 dogs, 2 cats and umteen eggs in the 3 incubators all falls on me. He will hold the hose for me though...LOL.

I can't complain, we are happy and enjoy life here in the mountains. Grandson(14) gets here next weekend (may 31st) for the summer so I will get a lot of my projects done, maybe even including painting the outside of the house. He didn't have time last summer to do that, we were into repairing everything last summer.

Retirement isn't the best thing in the world and not now with the economy the way it is, but it isn't too bad either.

Well, I can totally understand. Last summer we moved into an old farm house on 3.5 acres. The fact is it's all about choices. More land means more work. More animals means more work. Since there are still only 24 hours in the day you need to choose your priorities. Indoors or outdoors? Pick what's most important for your family.

My kids have daily chores. Partly, to teach them to have a good work ethic, but partly because I need the help. They knew from the start that getting a farm meant extra work for all of us.

I like to live in a clean, organized house. Some days I live that way, others I don't. I'm looking around right now and it's pretty cluttered today. I need to get some things picked up and I should vacuum since I have a friend bringing her kids over for lunch tomorrow. I don't mind a little clutter, but I hate to have people over unless my house looks perfect. That's just me. I inherited that trait from my mom who used to clean the oven if people were coming over! "Seriously, Mom, who's going to look in the oven?????"
