People with lots of land!

High five! I'm not sure if it's easier living alone, or harder. It would sure be nice to have someone else to do anything somewhere on the spectrum between scrubbing the bathroom floor to building a chicken coop. On the other hand, since it's just me, who cares if the sink is full of crusty old dishes?

I agree that caring for my animals always comes first. Everything else is a second priority. My cats don't care if I mow the lawn this weekend or not, you know?

Yes fly lady does help, but remember the idea isn't to take any system as "law" but to temper it with your own judgement. In the case of shoes, have a "inside" pair of slip ons, and a pair of outside boots for chores. Swap shoes at the door, and put a shoe rack there to corral them.
For housework/chores we do 15 on, 30 off, and set a timer. 15 minutes of serious cleaning with a 30 minute break, then back to 15 mins cleaning again, that way I don't feel a slave to the house. Kids do likewise with thier chores, tidy for 15, watch a cartoon, clean for 15 more till done.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

How do you manage your time?? I feel like I can have a good garden and the yard in decent shape or I can have a clean house. I don't seem to be able to do both!

My house ALWAYS has dirt tracked in. Pine shavings, mud whatever. I read the flylady about putting on a pair of lace up shoes and keeping them on all day! Clearly the woman does not have barn shoes!!

Am I just here too much??

Ah, seriously, I HATE housework it is mindless boring Sysiphean task.

I hate housework, too, with a PASSION! I need a maid but I hear they don't do windows!

When DH was working (he is now retired) he had to mow our 7 acres of grass on the weekend. Took forever, he bought a real tractor and a bush hog to do it, while I rode the riding mower to do the finish work around the house. Too evil.

Now we live in a swamp, lots of swamp, but mowing around the house and pond only takes about 90 minutes.

I recommend moving to a forest or swamp!

Edited to add this:

I'm trying to convince DH to let me buy one of those Roomba vacuum cleaners. Pricey, but with 2 dogs and all the sand and dirt, the floor might look better. I don't vacuum much either!

Kids want to come out with families tomorrow for Memorial Day. I told them fine I have to deal with building a new coop and moving chickens. I cooked Mother's Day and My birthday you can cook tomorrow. The baby back ribs and corn on the cob are in the fridge... you eat it you cook it. I have been working all day in the rain in both the garden and building a new silkie run and coop. Oh did I mention 2 dropped off kids to spend the night last night.... That put me about 3 hours behind this morning.

I cook - with a passion. Cleaning? Not so much passion. Two rules make it all bearable:

1) No shoes in the house. I have a huge stack on the enclosed front porch, though. Plus, Crocs are great, cuz you can leave them out in the rain.

2) The livingroom is a no slop zone. Thus, I have one room I can usher people into, if they drop in. My kitchen looks like a bomb went off - 90% of the time. The livingroom looks the same, great - always. That is because nobody eats in there or leaves their junk in there. This is doable if you start when the kids are little. I frankly hate to see a livingroom turned into a Little Tikes display area. And I grew up in a home where the sofa was the place to eat supper. We ruined MANY sofas...

My best friend has OCD and her house looks like a movie set. It kinda creeps me out.

Ditto with the guys who have "gotta" mow 10 acres. That is just odd. Plant some wildflowers! You'll have more time to enjoy life.
