perch for nest boxes?

I am planning for my first chicks this spring and can hardly wait! I want everything to be perfect for my little chickies. My coop has four nest boxes raised about three feet off the ground. Do I need to provide a perch in front of the boxes for them to jump up on? There is a small lip on the front of the nest boxes themselves.

Probably. My bantams wouldn't go in theirs until we added a perch.

Yes, they should have a perch

We added a small perch under the nest boxes and I noticed they always hop on it first before going into the boxes.

Beside that we also added a board under the boxes which sticks out a couple of inches.

They walk along the board and decide which box they will go in.

Thanks for the answers! It shouldn't be too hard to add a perch. the hard part is waiting for the chicks!!
