Hi, I was wondering if a closet rod would make a good perch or not for my chickens when there all grown up. Or is there something else I should be using for a perch.

I think that people use a lot of different things for perches. I have read quite a few posts on this topic. Quite a few people have said to use 2X4's with the wide 4 inch part being used for perching. This is because the chickens can fit their feet on it and cover their entire feet with their bodies. This would be important during cold weather to protect their feet. It can be very cold here in the winter, so we did just that. Here is a picture of the roosts that my husband build.

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much, it can get very cold in Vermont so I'm trying very hard to prepare the coop for next winter. I will go pick up some 2x4's soon and start building my perch. Thanks again.
