Hi everyone! My name is Allison and a few of you have already commented on a thread I posted trying to figure out a breed of a little chick. Where do I start? I have two friends that started their chicken flocks this year. I thought they were crazy and now I am eating my words. My cat Dynamite decided he was a chicken thief and one evening last week he came over the fence with a little week old chick in his mouth. After I chased him around the backyard he finally realized he was no match for me and dropped the chick. I picked it up and it was completely unscathed. Lucky little chick! I shocked my husband when I walked into the house with the squeaky thing. Boy does she have a set of lungs on her! We walked the neighborhood, visiting the nearby farm properties looking for her home and had no luck. One guy even laughed at us and said, "That's YOUR chicken." We still have no idea where he found this chick. We decided to bring her home and do some research. We originally decided that one of our chicken friends would be inheriting her. The next morning we were at the feed store getting all the necessities. "Nugget" started chirping bloody murder any time we were out of her sight. It was suggested that we get her buddies. So a day later we were headed back to the feed store to pick her out a buddy. How do you choose just one!?!? We ended up with 3!(My husband is a real trooper!) It's been a couple of days and sadly one of our new chicks went downhill quickly and didn't make it. Now .we have 2 bantam mixed chicks that I was told by the store employee that they were silkies. I posted pictures and was informed that one looked like a polish and one looked to be a sultan. I am excited either way. They are going to look crazy and I love it. Now Nugget on the other hand could care less about her new flockmates she still can't let me leave the room without shouting to the world that she needs to be touching me. She can fly a little now and likes to get on my shoulder and she is content. We feed the cats and dog, watch tv, and get the mail together. She spends more time laying on me than in her pen. I never knew chickens snuggled! My husband says, "That's not right. That chicken doesn't know it's a real chicken." He finds her very amusing. Nugget enjoys shopping online at Amazon for chicken stuff. She also attempts to text at the same time I do. I'd be in trouble if her beak actually triggered the keys. Needles to say we've bonded and will most likely be keeping all of our chickens. Fingers crossed that they are all female. Not sure how the HOA would feel about those early morning wake up calls from roosters. I am so glad I came across this website. It has been a huge help on this new endeavor of ours.

When your chicks are 6 weeks old you can post photos at "what breed or gender is this." For now, I can say you have a polish chick, don't know about the others.
