So I have been a chicken owner for all of 3 days, and it's already had a tragic ending for one of my poor little chicks.
DD6 was outside with the two chicks this morning, and didn't see our cat sneaking up behind them. Needless to say, it didn't end well for anyone involved. My poor 6yo daughter was totally distressed as seeing such a thing happen and losing her chicken so newly to owning it. She tried to save poor Sally, but it wasn't possible.
Anyway, we have now gotten two more chickens to go with Tulip (who is a white cross breed). We now have Sarah a little black Australorp and Dixie Chick who is a Buff Sussex.
Fingers crossed they don't end in the same manner as poor Sally.
The three chicks together: L-R Sarah, Dixie Chick & Tulip
Tulip - our mixed breed
Dixie Chick - being held by traumatised DD6 - apparently she's a Buff Sussex (?)
Sarah the little black Australalorp (?) - being held by DD3
