This is my third year at playing piano. Anybody else play it? It is one of my biggest passions now! What can you play?

I don't play piano now, but I'm hoping to start lessons in January!

I used to play the cello - have earned a high school diploma for it, and piano was a second required instrument that I had to learn.
It's been many, many years since I graduated and I haven't practiced since on neither of them.

So, I may still have some basic skills but not much technical capability.
After music school I changed my field to visual arts - photography and graphic design. [IMG]

Good luck on you musical endeavors. ;-)

Quote:Heksa, I have always played the cello and still do, but when I tried to learn the piano as a 23-year-old, I could not do it for the life of me. Piano is so hard because you have to think of more than four notes at one time. With the cello, you only have to think of one.

To me, anybody that can play the piano is a genius!

I find cello and its sound the most beautiful of all instruments! I wish I could still play something. It's just so hard to find time to practice.
It's been more then ten years since I was able to play it. For my diploma I played Saint-Sans Cello Concerto No.1.
Now I would be happy if I could decently play some Bach's Aria. [IMG]
How advanced are you on the cello? Do you do it for yourself or teach or play in the orchestra?

My piano skills were never great, it wasn't my main instrument.

Quote:Oh my gosh! You must have been quite good at an early age. I only played the Lalo for my judging.

Though I kept playing the cello after school age, I did it for pleasure. My favorite thing is to be in a string quartet or a cello ensemble. To be honest, I only practice it if I have a performance coming up, such as playing a solo in church or for a wedding. Playing by yourself can be very lonely.

The hard thing about picking up a long ago instrument is that not only is your mind a little fuzzy, but all your finger and arm muscles are so out of shape. You need ear plugs to survive your first few hours of practicing.

I think Lalo concerto is about the same level as Saint-Sans I did. If I remember correctly someone played it for their diploma in my school.

I used to play a little bit after high school since I continued with music education and all of my friends were musicians. But ever since I moved to US I didn't even have an instrument.
A few year ago my husband got me quite a nice cello for Christmas ... but I am ashamed to admit - I took it out of the cover maybe 5 times in a period of 4 years. It's hard. The intruments sounds great ... but my fingers don't move too well anymore and that does not sound pretty at all. ;-)

My sister bought me piano lessons a couple of years ago. I love the sound, but I don't practice near as much as I used to. My favorite sheet music is "Oh Holy Night" and "The Muppet Show" theme.
