My girls and I picked up our new chicklets today! We are so excited

We got them all situated in a brooder in the hen house, fully protected from any curious or jealous hens. We now have 4 silver-laced wyandotts, 4 columbian wyandotts, 3 golden buff, 2 americaunas, and an unknown

We went to pick up NINE and came home with FOURTEEN. You know, they just kind of followed us home, lol. We got to the hatchery and saw the bins with chicks that were $1 each. They had had an open house over the weekend and these were left overs. Each one of the girls asked to pick one out so.... I couldn't say no, lol. My two daughters and my son's girlfriend each got a new chick and I bought two others to give to a friend, maybe. I really do need to find a home for at least four of them in a few months because I don't have the coop space to over winter that many with my other five layers I have. If I can re-home four then I will only be over by one more than I went to pick up

I suppose if we have any casualties then I have some to make up for losses, but I hope that doesn't happen. Right now everyone is happy so only time will tell.

Hello from another Buckeye. Is that the hatchery in Polk? I took the kids ONCE on the "recon" mission when we were thinking about getting chickens, but since we "were just looking", no purchases. Now I do the hatchery pickups alone!

Where in OH are you? We might be interested.

Yes indeed! The Meyer hatchery in Polk is where we picked them up. We live in Knox county, about an hour from Polk... southwest, I think. I just make the drive, not memorize the direction, lol I'm thankful they didn't have any of those chicklets out last month when we went to pick up the broilers. I'd have been in BIG trouble then
