Pics of orpingtons.

OMG, they are all just so sweet. I can't wait till spring to add more to my flock.

I have a question for those who have raised BO's for more than a year like me. So the BO molted this fall. None of my other new birds did. And I'm highly suspicious she was forced into her molt by being bullied away from food while we were away on vacation the third week in September. The neighbor didn't understand what a bully my EE was and how to separate them for treat time. Anyway, I came home to the BO dropping feathers all over the place. Here we are two months later. I thought we were done but then this last week, she's dropping feathers again. Not a lot. But a few more.

How long does it take for a BO to fully finish molting? She's definitely growing back her feathers and her appetite is back. She was ignoring me for those two months and now she'll come when I call her and let me pick her up. I'm eager for her to finish and start laying me those beautiful brown eggs once again.

Butterball. Oh, I'm going to have to steal that name. It's PERFECT. We named our girls after spices. Or very loosely, what you'd find in your spice cabinet. Mrs. Dash, Honey Bear, Ginger. But Butterball is MARVELOUS!!!

I was taking pics of my girls this morning, and I thought the one of my buff orpington (un-originally named Buffy) turned out pretty cute, so here you go.

THAT is a great photo. You must submit that for the Photo of the week.

I just bought four day old BO's this week and have them in the brooder in the garage. Not exactly the best time to be raising chicks. But come spring, the'll be outside and ready to go just as everyone else is getting chicks.
