I just turn mine so the beam points upward, then use a washcloth with a dime size hole cut in it to place the egg on. They tend to run hot since most use a 300 watt bulb, but you dont need to sit the egg on long to see with those. I know I posted pics of both of mine on here recently.
No problem. The really old metal one has no bulb, but I think I can get another if I need to (burnt out after using it to candle a few hatches) My DH was an art student so he had several already. Lots of people have them in their attics or bsmts, I bet.
I'm not sure if the one I have will work or not; but if not, someone at work suggested I call around to some Goodwill-type places. I though that was a good idea, too.
