I've always read to avoid pine shavings with baby chicks - but if I give them to a broody mama to raise in the coop, how do I avoid pine shavings?

No worries with a broody. They have a mom to show them what's food. My broody raised chicks on shavings from the day they hatched. All are grown now and laying their own eggs.

No pine shavings are fine--just don't use with cedar or other hard wood...

Thanks so much! We're going to try putting the chicks under the mama hen in the wee hours of the morning. Wish me luck![IMG]
