pipped chick not hatching

One of my eggs finally pipped last eve. around 9:00, it has been 12 hrs. and hasn't made any progress. How long can a chick live inside its shell? Should I help it or not ? I helped a silkie chick with my last batch and it did well, but should I wait a little while yet ? Thanks for your advice !!

I would help... If it hasn't made any progress yet, then it is probably very tired by now. Just be very careful.

Zip the shell open with a pair of tweezers. If you get blood, stop, put the egg back and wait and hour or 2. Just make sure then the membrane doesn't dry out and stick to the chick.
