Hi,

I'm really interested in trying to adopt some doves, specifically Diamond Doves. I've checked a lot of adoption places but the only problem is that they don't ship their birds. If anyone does know of some places that can ship them, I would greatly appreciate it!

They are very strict on who they will ship doves to. I asked before and they said they have no trouble rehoming doves in their area so getting them shipped to you is probably not gonna happen. It doesn't hurt to check, but you probably should check elsewhere. Maybe check at the humane society/pound, you never know when they might have something like that come in.

99.999% of these humane / rescue groups think that they are akin to gods and impose such insane rules and regulations on any adoptee and charge outragous fees that rival the most expensive purebred from a very REPUTABLE breeder that any sane person would laugh at. Not to mention the steanch that reaks that greets you when one arrives at their parking lot. When my granddaughter was born, we discovered that she was allergic to dogs. So my son and daughter in law had to give up their neutered male chihuahua/? mutt that they had for 5 years. No humane, rescue or pound in the Metropolitan area of way over a million in population would take him as they claimed that they were full. I had to drive about 140 miles to another smaller town to a rescue that had ONE vacancy to take him. When I arrived at the huge rescue building and entered their reception room, I gagged and almost puked. They then made me fill out a 5 page information application and surrender contract. Then they took the dog out back so that their animal behavioriist could see if he was well behaved to people and other animals ( which he was). They charged me a $125 surrender fee, then asked for a $100 donation. Then they called my son on the phone asking for another $100 donation. For any adoptor they have an 3 page appication form, then they send one of their volunteer personell to inspect the applicants' home, if they pass, 2 page adoption contract , a$200 adoption fee, also $75 Vet health examination fee, plus $25 vaccination fee ( dog just had his booster shots 2 months ago) then they want to sell you bags of food, treats, chew toys, collar, leash, etc. ( at least $55 +++ ). and to top it off they also ask for a $100 donation. = $ 780 or more for a 9 pound mutt that they got for free. I wonder why he is still there 8 months later ???

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I'll keep looking to see if I can adopt them somewhere, otherwise I'll just buy them at a local petstore.

I appreciate it

Middletown, NY and Highland NY, those are the only 2 breeders listed in the directory that say they sell doves. Are either within range for you? If so, send me a pm and I'll send you their contact info.

I don't see why Mickacoo wouldn't ship to you guys. Especially right now. It requires the same process as if you were to adopt pigeons or any other animal. Filling out forms, etc. Perhaps they are more wary of shipping out doves because they are smaller and more dainty.

They told me they have no problems rehoming them locally so it would be very difficult. They'd need a good-sized aviary (no cages), pictures of said aviary, etc. etc.
