My star layer has been broody now for approximately for four weeks now, and I haven't been able to break her up for love nor money. That said, I'm planning on adding two new chicks to the flock in the next week, and while the brooder is ready to go, I'm wondering: could I simply give a pair of two-day old chicks to my broody to brood? Would that work, or would she reject them?

It can be done, especially since the poor dear has been broody for so long. You could try to slip them under her at night. Make sure to observe her closely to be sure she doesn't harm them.

Is she separated? If not, you will want to do that ASAP to give her time to adjust to her new digs before trying to add chicks.

hey JokinOkie

i'm giving it a go as well - my momma cochin just hatched yesterday and i have 4 day old chicks (from a hatchery) that i'm going to try and slide under her... shhhhh.... less work for me
