I'm a newbie city girl with no construction skills. My intent is to modify a children's plastic playhouse to use as a coop. While I'm on this theme, I wonder about the suitability of a plastic, bottomless playard as a portable pen. I could use corrugated plastic sheeting to block any spaces that are too wide and cover the top with some sort of fabric to keep them from flying out. I want three laying hens. Thoughts?

There are several on here that have used the plastic play house idea with much success. The plastic gate idea may not work if the plastic is not rated for outdoor use. Many plastics will become brittle in the sun and there are even types that will deteriorate (over a long period of time) if in constant contact with water. Without knowing what kind the gate is made out of i would first try with something used or free from garage sale or CL.
