This afternoon I got an email that a friend of mine who I worked with for over 20 years had fallen at home Sunday morning and was in the hospital having surgery to remove damaged disks in his neck. Dave fell down the stairs from his pole barn Sunday morning at about 5:30a in the rain walking back to the house. He's walked that path about a million times. Dave has moved his arms and legs, so the hopefully his prognosis is positive.
On the way home from the hospital I started thinking (usually where I get in trouble). On Sunday I was out at the coop on a ladder in the rain shoring up the roof as the remnants of Ike passed by. We all work outside, climb ladders and occasionally do things we know we probably shouldn't be doing.
The human body is more fragile than any of us would like to admit. I know Im guilty of stretching the limits from time to time.
Please, as you are all working to care for the ones you love, remember that the ones you love need you to be safe! Whether it's the first time you've tackled the task or the fiftieth, be careful!
