This afternoon I got an email that a friend of mine who I worked with for over 20 years had fallen at home Sunday morning and was in the hospital having surgery to remove damaged disks in his neck. Dave fell down the stairs from his pole barn Sunday morning at about 5:30a in the rain walking back to the house. He's walked that path about a million times. Dave has moved his arms and legs, so the hopefully his prognosis is positive.

On the way home from the hospital I started thinking (usually where I get in trouble). On Sunday I was out at the coop on a ladder in the rain shoring up the roof as the remnants of Ike passed by. We all work outside, climb ladders and occasionally do things we know we probably shouldn't be doing.

The human body is more fragile than any of us would like to admit. I know I’m guilty of stretching the limits from time to time.

Please, as you are all working to care for the ones you love, remember that the ones you love need you to be safe! Whether it's the first time you've tackled the task or the fiftieth, be careful!

Wise words my friend....some years ago I to fell down the stairs at home, compacted multiple discs in my back, cracked my tail bone, hairline fracture of the hip and my face looked like I had done ten rounds in the ring, tripped on the top step and landed/bounced/rolled to the bottom! Boy did that hurt! So give my very best wishes to Dave and a speedy recovery.

sometimes no matter how careful you are life happens. In February I slipped 2 disks.............coughing.

My prayers are with your friend and you are so right. I lost a good buddy a few years ago when he went up a tall ladder to work on his roof and it went over backwards on him. He hit his head on a brick flower planter and died instantly. Life is so fragile.
