We have a 2 month old chick who we noticed hasn't been good over the past few days, so we took it in and started force feeding it electrolytes (with water). Then it got worse and had the flesh sticking out which we assumed is prolapse. We've been giving it epsom salt baths to help with that and trying to stick the flesh back in gently, but it keeps poking out. Yesterday we noticed that his vent was getting inflamed and swollen, and the flesh sticking out is now a little bit darker rather than being a fleshy pink. We saw about two days after we took him in that there's a worm in the poop, so we assumed he had worms (our chickens are free range and we put them in the coop at night). We don't have a lot of resources for poultry care and medicines, so we relied on natural deworming method which was apple-cider vinegar and garlic. We also fed him a little bit of a deworming pill for cats as we had that on hand (we looked up if it was safe). She/he's not been eating or drinking (other than us force feeding) and it sleeps all day. It's been maybe 5 days of these symptoms and so far. We've been feeding it every 15 minutes -- one syringe full of electrolytes and one syringe full of vitamin water. We let him/her outside every once in a while to sunbathe and sit with the other chicks and their mother. At night we let him sleep with a few hot water bottles to maintain warmth. He's shown some progress -- before, his poops were white and mostly watery, kind of mucus-y. Now it's a little more formed, but still small and not as healthily formed.

What else should we do, and what can we do about the inflamed/swollen vent? Are we doing something wrong? We're fairly new to raising chicks.

(By the way, this website has helped a lot while we were doing our research, so thank you for that :))

Sorry I don't have much experience with chick worms. It sounds like the little guy is in good hands, though. I'm assuming from what you said that he was raised by his mother? If so keep an eye on his sibs for any of the same problems. Sorry i can't help more, and good luck ☺
