Hi guys im a new member,my name is kiesha from the uk,I have 3 chooks 2 hens (cream legbar&light sussex) I also have 1 rooster cream legbar.
There only 4 weeks old so I have them indoors on and off heat.
My concern is the deep litter method I have a shop bought coop for 3-4 chickens the type with the house and nesting box then run attached underneath
Do I fill the run with pine shavings and keep tossing it and adding fresh shavings once in a while? Or do I put nothing in the run,do i use deepmethod with pine shavings in the house under the perch and toss and add when it gets too poopy? Do I use a diferant material in nesting box when the girls start laying? Im so confused....Also does anyone bring there rooster indoors at night to keep down the noise for neighbours? Thanks in advance xxx

! Great to have you aboard! My understanding of the DLM is that it is in the coop, not the run - but I could be wrong. I use straw or hay in the nest boxes. In terms of the roosters?? I'm a country boy so I don't worry about the noise. Good luck to you and best wishes!

Thank you for your reply, what material do you put in your run? Or what would you but in if it was attached yo there coop,I do allow them to 3 range when im home, and during the day when I cant watch them the play in the coop and runx

Pine shavings. When it looks or smells like it needs changed we change it. So right now ours are still small we change every 2-3 weeks. When they were indoors the first 6 wks it way every other day. The rooster is there to protect the hens. Just like humans we need a man around to make us feel safe t night. So leave the rooster with the hens.

I put mulch ( wood chips ) in the run if its probe to get muddy. But generally we leave it and rake it weekly when we clean the coop.
I use wood shavings under the roosts and hay in the nesting boxes. Hope that helps!
