I hatched these chicks around six weeks ago from my mixed flock. May be too soon but I am so curious. Any help appreciated!

#1, my guess is cockerel

#2 My guess is idk. Hoping for pullet, it's a white leghorn mix.

#4 and finally cuckoo maran mix. Hope this is a pullet. It was the first hatched, and the only one I have named. Mr. or Mrs Peepers

The wolf on your shirt looks like it's trying to eat your chicks.

I've heard it said to look at the hackles. If the ends of them are pointy, that means that it is a cockerel. If they are round, pullet.

Beautiful chicks, though! :love
Thanks! I have heard that too but don't think it's quite that simple. For example, here is a picture of a hen with very pointy hackles.

Probable mom of chick #3

With mixed breeds, the best indicator is comb.
#1 cockerel, as you suspected. Pea combs develop more slowly, and that much color and flesh at 6 weeks is almost certainly a cockerel.

#2 pullet

#3 pullet

#4 likely pullet, but watch. A bit more flesh on the pea comb, but nowhere near as advanced as #1.

My guesses.

This is a tough one. If I have to guess they all look like pullets but you might be right and the fist one is a cockerel. Good luck. They are all very pretty
