We have a one year old dorking that has fallen very ill. She has not been laying for a couple of weeks but other than that, there were no immediate symptoms. I noticed a few days ago that she was sitting in the coop versus running outside. We brought her in and put her in a large cage. We gave her an antibotic and have been keeping her on it regularly. We have also offered her favorite foods. She has not gone to the bathroom in days. She has not eaten or drank anything (other than the antiboitic through the syringe). We are pretty new at this and not sure what else to do. She is a year old and was vaccinated when we initially got her from Murray McMurray. Also, her comb is laying down to the side.

What else can we do? Our chickens are pets to us. She won't stand up and only opens her eyes when we are loud. We don't want to lose her!

My husband turned her over and checked her vent. He also felt her abdomen. He doesn't feel an egg stuck. He noticed that her stool (apparently there is a little of it) is green and looks like algae. Any thoughts?

You won't believe it! She has made a total turnaround- at least for now. She is walking around the cage, scratching, eating and drinking. Tomorrow is a week on the antibiotic. I am very optimistic she will recover. Does anyone know how long I should keep her separate since I have no idea what she has had?
