my six week chick had a little accident with the pen coop door. she got her foot caught in it while it was being shut and now it's swollen, bruised and lacerated. She's not standing on it.
I've separated her and brought her inside in a box, with food and water, disinfected the foot and bandaged it. How can I tell if the foot is broken? or what else I can do?

I feel a little useless at the moment.. I haven't had chicks or chickens before, and don't know what I should be feeding her, if I need to do it by hand.

If there is anyone on line to chat with right now. I would love some advice??

You are doing all you can at the moment. Even if it is broken, there's not much you can do but separate her, give her a little extra TLC and "tincture of time"... It may only be bruised in which case you should see her start to put weight on it in a few days. Keep us posted!

thanks for the words of support.. much appreciated. [IMG]

but what to feed her?? do I just soften the chick mash with warmwater?? and force feed it?

she's hopping around a little, but no weight on her foot, and she's very quiet. [IMG]
