Hi. I'm new here and to chickens. I hatched my first batch a few weeks ago. I have 2 Araucana chicks that are 4 weeks old I'm trying to determine the sex of. They are out of a breeder in Georgia. I also have a lavender orpington from Arkansas who is 3 weeks old. I hope the photos are clear enough, they aren't the easiest lil subjects to catch. lol. I live in a neighborhood so I cant keep any roos. My 9 yr old will be so sad to part with any... Me too.
If these photos aren't good for the necessary things I can take mote tomorrow. Thanks for any help. [IMG]

Chick #1 Black rump less untufted. Slower feathering and some feathers look pointed. Has not crowed but moves his/her neck and opens beak like crowing without sound:

Chick # 2 white tufted with a few tail feathers. Biggest chick but face looks softer than the black and feathered faster than the black

    Isi @ 3 weeks

Chick #3 Lavender Orpington 3 week old small comb development, very sweet seems fast feathering. Had wing feathers almost immediately

I would say it's too young to tell yet, it would be MUCH easier to tell when they are 6 weeks up =) good luck!

thankfully no, lol but my first chick was a boy, and then from a breeder, out of four "females" two were males! sigh. so I guess other people have had worse luck, but I wasn't that overjoyed with that many roosters
