PLEASE HELP THINK CHICKEN HAS PROLAPSE

One of my laying hens has had a runny bum , but today I saw blood dripping from it and I think something pertruding . Do I wash her and see what I can see? She is eating at the moment and seems okay what do I do ?

Yes you need to wash her. Use warm water and see what it looks like. If you see a prolapse you can try and push it back in. You can also use PreparationH (without pain reliever in it) to help with the swelling. Goodluck and let us know what you find after you clean her up.

Several months ago I had a hen that was dripping clear fluid from her vent, when I checked her I found she had swallowed a 2" nail and it had passed all the way through her diguestive tract and turned sideways at the end, piercing the tissue and lodging there.

I used diagonal cutters to cut the nail and removed it.

I thought she would never lay eggs again, but 2 months later she was back to laying everyday.

Definately need to check her closely.
