We had our Hannah hen euthanized Friday by the State of Ohio vets.. Necropsy was mandatory because of our quarantine for ILT. Basically, we are out of the woods for ILT. State vet told us today that they suspect Hannah may have had Salmonella Pullorum. This is a test positive and destroy condition. They will not complete her testing before Thurs/ Fri. She had a massive infection involving all her organs and her ovaries were totally iommature; they think because of her illness; that is why she never laid an egg. They think she has been ill since long before we got her, and she was just good at covering up her symptoms. We are so sorry we did not research this sooner as we would've had her euthanized a long time ago. They do not think she had Mareks, which we thought at first. The rest of our flock appears healthy at this point and none are exhibiting any symptoms classic to this condition. We are praying that the tests will prove negative for Hannah and that she did not have anything contagious that cannot be cured. We can use all the support we can get![IMG] (tears)...

also, fyi...if she tests positive the state vets will be back to take blood samples on everyone else. Anyone who tests positive will be destroyed. We will then be under quarantine again.

chicknmania, sorry to hear the bad news, it's the hardest part to all the fun.

It's good to see the state will take blood tests first before any action. Forums like this one have put alot of pressure on the gov to act with real reason before any birds are culled. Genetic diversity is in the backyard flocks and needs to be protected for future generations. You did what's right.

    I'm so sorry about Hannah.
Hope the rest of the girls don't test positive.
Definitely prayers and hugs all around.
