My chick is 27 hours old. When should she poop the first time? Karen

Not sure exactly how long it was after hatching, but I think mine usually poop some weird green stuff within 12 hours of hatching. As long as the chick's poop isn't just stuck to its vent and blocking more poop from coming out, I wouldn't worry too much yet.

Has the chick eaten and had any water? If so it should have had something to eleminate by now. They don't really need to eat for at least 36 hours so if it is not consuming any food or water then it may be fine. Check its bum and make sure Pasty Butt is not an issue and make sure it is drinking. Add a little sugar to the water if you feel it might help it get interested. Vitamines and Electrolytes is always a good idea with newly hatched chicks.

NOT a real good way to say this but follow the sugestions AND get a warm drop of of water on your finger and drop it on his little poop hole.. [IMG]

every once in a great while they get stuck shut from sticky stuff drying. [IMG]

Melanie, thanks for the butt info. I found poop this evening.
The silkie eggs that you sent me all look good, and tomorrow they go to the hatchrt. Karen
