Here is an extremely simple 7x12 structure. I built this 8+ years ago and had no idea what I was doing at the time and am still using it to this day. Currently it houses 11 Bobwhites but will hold Coturnix as well.

This is 10 x 3 split into 3 inside pens. 1/2 hardware on the bottom and front and plywood back an sides. Ondura(home depot or Lowes) roofing.

I bought rough cut 4x4's a lumber yard and then ripped them down to 2x2.

I have 6 pens that are basically identical to what you have except that they are 3x8 and have no dividers. They have 1/2" hardware cloth for the floor. Those pens do work great for raising coturnix in. I use them now just to raise the birds that end up in the freezer. It's an easy build that won't cost you that much.

I also put one of those 6 plug surge protector type cords on the inside so that I can get easy electric. typically when I move chicks outside I put a heat lamp in the pen. I also have Christmas lights strung on the inside. Here's a pic of how they looked mid-December. I winterized by wrapping the bottom with plastic and putting heat lights underneath. Help keep the water from freezing unless it dropped below the teens.

Well let me start by saying, I have never seen that much snow ever lol. Here in Central Alabama it very very rarely ever snows. Aside from maybe a snow flurry or 2 it has not snowed here in maybe 5 years and even then it was only maybe an inch and even that melted away by the afternoon.

LOL. We don't normally get that much snow here but that was a big storm. I think it came the second week in December and snowed for 3 straight days. We topped out around 2 and a half foot which was more than we've seen in 2 years combined. With the cold this winter I don't think it melted until mid-February.

Here are some photos of my pens, my favorite is the folding table pen, the prefab is a real piece of junk, and I spent $70+ strengthening it with extra hardware. The short pvc and hardware cloth pen sags pretty bad in the middle from the freak 3 feet of snow this winter, even though I went out every couple hours to shovel it off.

I bought a bunch of these small runs from Wal-Mart on clearance (they assemble in 20 min! This is two zip tied together and it's 35 square feet for 6 birds) and several of the triangle hutches on over stock.com for breeding pairs or isolation. I added hardware cloth to the hutches because they come with 1" bars originally. I use cardboard boxes for hidey huts and put some cut branches as well. Quail love to see without being seen. I am in South Texas so keeping it cool is more of a priority than warmth.
